I worked at DMU for 18 months as a Social Media Officer, where I was involved in making many different types of content for the university's social media, as well as various marketing materials.
City Highlight Videos
During this time the pieces I am most proud of in this time are the three videos below, which showcase the city of Leicester to students. They highlight the best independent stores, independent coffee shops, and the best things to do at Christmas, in Leicester. I adapted the scripts for these videos, as well as filming, directing and editing. These required coordinating with shop owners and other members of the public to obtain filming permissions. The most popular of these videos has over 700,000 views on YouTube and 400,000 views on Facebook. They were also shared by the Leicester City Council and local influencer page Cool as Leicester.
Podcasts - The Student Lockdown Diaries
Podcasting was an area that DMU had not touched on prior to my time at the university. Therefore I had the chance to take the lead on this project, creating a series of student advice podcasts centred around how students were coping with lockdown.
I organised participants, worked out how to remotely record using software called Cleanfeed, edited and created promotional materials for the Student Lockdown Diaries.
TikTok
In November 2019 DMU launched a TikTok channel. This channel allowed us to get creative with the content that we produced, which meant that I had chance to experiment with different techniques. Below left is a trailer for our channel that I made from our previous videos, the end of which includes a 'Glitch' effect that I learnt to create. On the right is the Halloween 2020 video. Unfortunately due to the pandemic we were unable to film anything so I used still images of the university mascot and digitally edited them through Photoshop, before animating the piece using Adobe After Effects.
Other Graphics
Another important part of my work for DMU was creating a variety of graphics for the social media pages. These included YouTube thumbnails, animated gifs, and alerts for the coronavirus pandemic, which I had to update daily at the beginning of lockdown
